Lang's Legacy
In 1884, Arnold Lang published his monograph on polyclad flatworms "Fauna und Flora des Golfes von Neapel und der angrenzenden Meeres-Abschnitte. XI. Monographie: Die Polycladen", which is to date still the most comprehensive work on polyclads, especially in the mediterranean. Taxonomy, ecology, embryology, phylogeny, anatomy - on almost 800 pages the whole range of polyclad biology is included.The life-like drawings of polyclads are a highlight of this book; often it's not easy to realize it's a drawing and not a photograph. Below, Lang's drawings are accompanied with data on distribution, egg-laying and larval type, updated soon.
